Hi, I’m Ali, the principal designer here at Sunbeam Studio. I founded the studio to share my passion for interior design with my community. I pivoted from a career in psychology to work in design as I yearned for a career where I could apply my desire to help others in a more creative field. A primary goal of the studio is to create bespoke interiors that allow you to leave the worries of your day at the door. The mental health benefits of good interior design are often overlooked, but by carefully considering a variety of elements, from colours to lighting to furnishings, I seek to incite a certain mood in each space.
Sunbeam Studio is a full-service interior design studio serving metropolitan Sydney and beyond. I equate being “full-service” to taking the stress and time commitment of co-ordinating a renovation off your hands and into mine. From concept right through to installation I am hands on with making your dream home a reality. I have a practically endless number of suppliers and quality tradespeople at my fingertips so there will be no compromise on quality and I can source amazing pieces you are unlikely to find anywhere else.
I pride myself on curating interiors which reflect each client’s unique personal style. Each project is a highly collaborative process with my clients to create the perfect bespoke home for them, combining my design flair with their functional requirements and aesthetic preferences. The natural world is a huge source of inspiration and guidance for me when designing interiors. This often develops in the form of earthy colour palettes, natural materials and organic shapes. Maintaining a connection to nature greatly contributes to a sense of peace and relaxation in one’s home that is highly sought after by many homeowners; I help bring this dream to life.
The best time to engage an interior designer is when you are first thinking of renovating. We begin with an in-depth design consult in your home. This is an opportunity to nail down your needs and wants for the design and receive a design proposal from us outlining our expected timeline and fees. A typical renovation will involve reconfiguring the kitchen and bathroom layouts, potentially open up some walls to make the space more open plan, and adding in custom joinery tailored to the needs of the client. Sunbeam Studio will draft a detailed documentation package for the relevant tradespeople, and also for council if required. It is key to get council applications out of the way first as they can be slow to be processed.
In the meantime, work can begin on your interior scheme which encompasses a broad range of tasks from sourcing furnishings, fixtures and finishes to colour schemes to lighting. This will often go through a few iterations as ideas are refined with the client to create a scheme that they will love for many years to come. I will then co-ordinate orders and deliveries and can style and set up the space if needed. You can continue to live your life as normal, and simply watch the transformation unfold!
